Feverfew is a perennial flower that has aromatic and finely cut leaves. The blooms are clusters of small white daisy-like flowers that are produced during the summer. While most plants have green leaves, some varieties do have golden foliage. The plant is commonly used as a medicinal herb to treat issues such as indigestion.

People most commonly take feverfew by mouth for migraine headaches. People also take feverfew by mouth for itching, tension headache, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

Tanacetum parthenium, known as feverfew, is a flowering plant in the daisy family, Asteraceae. It may be grown as an ornament, and is usually identified by its synonyms, Chrysanthemum parthenium and Pyrethrum parthenium.

The plant is a herbaceous perennial that grows into a small bush, up to 70 cm (28 in) high, with pungently-scented leaves. The leaves are light yellowish green, variously pinnatifid. The conspicuous daisy-like flowers are up to 20 millimetres (3⁄4 in) across, borne in lax corymbs. The outer, ray florets have white ligules and the inner, disc florets are yellow and tubular. It spreads rapidly by seed, and will cover a wide area after a few years.

In spring or fall preferably, locate a nice sunny spot to plant your erigeron, it can really support the blooming. In summer, planting can still be performed, but take care to water more regularly. To nicely cover a surface, plant around 8 or 9 flowers to a square yard (1 m²).

Erigeron is a herbaceous perennial that is also known as Robin’s plantain. It is natively found in the southern and eastern United States. The blooms produce pale violet rays that are arranged around a central yellow disc. They prefer full sun, and these beautiful plants will attract pollinators like butterflies.

Erigeron annuus is a herbaceous plant with alternate, simple leaves, and green, sparsely hairy stems, which can grow to between 30 and 150 centimeters (about 1 to 5 feet) in height. Leaves are numerous and large relative to other species of Erigeron, with lower leaves, especially basal leaves, coarsely toothed or cleft, a characteristic readily distinguishing this species from most other Erigeron. Upper leaves are sometimes (not always) toothed, but may have a few coarse teeth towards the outer tips.

The flower heads are white with yellow centers, with rays that are white to pale lavender, borne spring through fall depending on the individual plant.  Ray florets number 40 to 100.

A large genus of useful evergreen perennials. Ericas vary in growth habit, from low spreading and ground-cover to taller more bushy plants. A wide range of flower colours are available, from white through to all shades of pink and red to mauve. With careful selection heathers can be used to provide long-lasting colour in the garden, from spring to late winter.

Erica is also referred to as winter or alpine heath. The plant is an evergreen shrub that can spread to around 20 inches. The plants range from having dark green leaves to bronze tinged foliage.  The flowers may be colors such as pink, red, or white, and you can mix and match the colors for a veritable patchwork in your yard or garden.

Erica is a genus of roughly 857 species of flowering plants in the family Ericaceae. The English common names heath and heather are shared by some closely related genera of similar appearance. The genus Calluna was formerly included in Erica – it differs in having even smaller scale-leaves (less than 2–3 mm long), and the flower corolla consisting of separate petals. Erica is sometimes referred to as “winter (or spring) heather” to distinguish it from Calluna “summer (or autumn) heather”.

Most of the species of Erica are small shrubs from 20–150 cm (8–59 in) high, though some are taller; the tallest are E. arborea (tree heath) and E. scoparia (besom heath), both of which can reach up to 7 m (23 ft) tall. All are evergreen, with minute, needle-like leaves 2–15 millimetres (0.079–0.591 in) long. Flowers are sometimes axillary, and sometimes borne in terminal umbels or spikes, and are usually outward or downward facing. The seeds are very small, and in some species may survive in the soil for decades.

The tree can grow up to 15 meters. It is evergreen and has compound medium green leaves in clusters of seven. This tree depends for mechanical support on other rainforest trees. The tree is multi-trunked and flowers bloom at the treetop.

The umbrella plant is a multi trunk tree that can grows over 15 metres tall outdoors and has to be pruned and topped at some point to keep its size manageable within a home. Its close relative () Schefflera Actinophylla) has to carefully planted because of its invasive nature and is seen as a weed in certain places.

You will find three main varieties available including variegated (Gold Capella), plain green leafed and dwarf sized trees just named schefflera and umbrella plant on sale in garden stores). They are also grown as bonsai trees. If you want to purchase a plant but your unsure of whether it’s a S.arboricola or S.actinophylla and it’s just named schefflera; there are some slight differences, although care conditions needed are the same – so I would suggest you buy it if you like it.

They can grow with one trunk, but most likely with a two or more and multiple branches displaying palmate compound or whorled leaves (like fingers coming from the stalk) with four to twelve leaflets or more, giving it an umbrella spoke appearance. The glossy leaflets are near oval shaped and a few inches long and a couple of inches wide (depending on the age and size of the tree).

Grown in warmer climates outdoors – the umbrella plant produces bright red flowers like tentacles growing above the foliage on long stems (it’s where it gets the common name octopus tree). Unfortunately were not able to get these in flower when grown indoors.

Dracaena is a popular houseplant because it is easy to grow and very forgiving of novice gardeners. It’s also a top pick because there are so many varieties with different sizes, leaf shape, and color. A variegated dracaena plant, like the Song of India dracaena, for instance, gives you beautiful, multicolored foliage.

The song of India plant is a species from the dracaena genus (dracaena reflexa) that has become a popular house plant. This tree like plant is fairly easy to grow and maintain like others from this genus, although it does require high humidity levels.

There are various cultivars of the dracaena reflexa that display different leaf variations, although the most popular you’ll see sold in garden stores is the yellow edged variegata type. They usually grow up to about 3ft tall indoors (which takes a fair few years) and have a bushy tree type of look about them.

Like other dracaenas these are fairly easy to care for and grow and can withstand a certain amount of neglect, but not as much as other dracaena plants. The song of India does need it’s bright light and quite high humidity levels to thrive. The worst two things a grower can do is over water or allow the temperatures to drop very low.

The leaves are the main attraction to this species – although it does flower (we’ll cover that shortly). These leaves are glossy that arch over and grow up to 1ft long and a couple of inches or so wide. Some of these seem to grow quite out of hand (especially outdoors) and start to look a bit ugly, which can be overcome with pruning and training it’s growth.

As mentioned this species can flower and blooms clusters of near white small flowers that are not very attractive or noticeable.

Wow! Such a beautiful plant! We absolutely love the full shape and wonderful foliage on this houseplant. Growing in it’s natural habitat – this native to south and central America plant grows in swamps up to 20 metres tall, which is surprising considering how well it’s adapted to become an easy to care for indoor tree. The Mexican fortune tree produces attractive white flowers and edible nuts.

The Pachira aquatica has many common names including Mexican fortune tree, braided money tree, malabar chestnut, guiana chestnut and a few others.

In South America and other warm climates the pachira is grown for it’s edible nuts, in east Asia for good fortune, and in Europe and the US for their attractiveness as an indoor tree species. Grown braided as a house plant edible nuts will not fruit.

These have been cultivated in Taiwan to produce the braided types in various sizes including successful bonsai’s, which are exported to Europe, US and other countries.

The obvious interesting feature is the trunks of the money plant are braided which are thick and woody (like any other tree) with bark. The upper section of the trunk produces green branches with long thin petioles (stalks) and palmatley compound or whorled leaves (five or more leaflets attached like fingers) sitting at the top of the petiole. So, the plant has a mixture of a tree and palm appearance. The lush linear leaves are glossy in appearance and have darker green visible veins, adding to it’s attractiveness as a house or office plant. The smaller bonsai trunks look very thick compared to the size of the rest of the tree.

The Mexican fortune tree produces attractive white flowers and edible nuts. However, they will not bloom indoors.

A plant over 4 feet tall can add some charm to many places within a home – especially in large rooms, near patio doors, near a fireplace, in a conservatory, or within a hallway. They also make fantastic reception area and office plants, as long as the correct conditions can be provided.

Peacock houseplants (Calathea makoyana) are often found as part of indoor collections, though some gardeners say they’re difficult to grow. Peacock plant care includes keeping the soil consistently moist. The foliage of the Calathea peacock plant can be damaged by fluoride in water. Collect rainwater for watering peacock houseplants, or use bottled, distilled water without fluoride.

The Calathea Makoyana or Peacock Plant as it is more commonly known is a wonderful plant that can be known to grow up to 2ft in height when cared for correctly. Also named Cathedral Windows. Originally from Brazil this plant is a popular choice around the world for a house plant mainly because it makes a lovely addition to any home due to its beautiful foliage and bold markings. With its somewhat tropical origins, The Peacock Plant is a tall, slender plant that with the right care can become a colorful house plant for your collection.

Due to its Brazilian roots, humidity is best for this particular plant and it loves nothing more than to be misted although it is important to use distilled or rain water as the fluoride can cause damage to the delicate leaves. The Peacock plant has all the elegance and beauty of a Peacock’s tail, which is why it has been given its rather glorious name. The leaves are pale green with a dark green feathered effect from the middle of the leaf to the outer edges. When new leaves grow they are rolled up and show off their pinkish-red undersides; giving it another splash of color.

European fan palms are frequently used to add tropical flair to temperate landscapes. They also grow well as houseplants, adapting easily to indoor conditions.

These palms can grow both as a shrub with multiple trunks or as a small tree with a single trunk. The light blue-green to silver-green, fan-shaped fronds stretch roughly 2 feet long and wide and feature 10 to 20 long, narrow leaflets. Clusters of bright yellow flowers bloom in the spring. Small, round fruits in yellow, orange, or brown follow the flowers. European fan palms have a slow growth rate and are best planted in the spring.

The European fan palm is a tough and undemanding species, which makes it fairly easy to grow indoors. The fronds spread in a circle to approximately 300º and grow in an upward fashion, giving them a fan appearance. Because the Chamaerops Humilis is native to Europe (the only one) it grows well in temperate countries without a tropical climate, outdoors and indoors.

Once the European fan matures it sits well as a centerpiece within a large room or conservatory. Because it grows with a wide spread be prepared to have enough space, unless you plan to move it outdoors. Young plants at a manageable size, just need a spot to sit that gets enough sunlight close to windows.

They grow fairly slowly from thick canes or stems that produce long, narrow leaves like stalks of corn, growing upward. This growth habit also makes them look a lot like palm trees, which is why they’re sometimes called “false palms.”

They make good houseplants because they are tall and narrow, typically only reaching around 4 to 6 feet tall in containers. These plants aren’t high maintenance once you get their growing conditions right. Springtime is ideal for starting new plants, though you can typically pot nursery plants indoors any time of year. if you have cats or dogs, pass on this plant; dracaena is toxic to both.

The dracaena corn plant (botanical name: dracaena fragrans massangeana) is a well known indoor plant which is grown in many homes and offices within the US, UK and Europe.

There are a few dracaena fragrans varieties that display different types of leaves such as the massangeana, lindenii and victoria. The one with the common name corn plant or cornstalk is the massangeana.

The corn plant produces fragrant flowers in it’s natural habitat, but it’s not likely to bloom indoors – although they can. It’s the foliage that’s the real attraction for this plant.

The corn plant is fairly easy to grow and quite tolerant of neglect (i.e., low light levels and lack of water), although it will start looking unattractive when neglected. The worst thing’s to do with this plant is over water it or let it stay in direct sunlight for too long, otherwise it’s a tough cookie.
