The blossoms open from the bottom up and are available in colors ranging from white and pink to yellow and orange. The foxtail lily or Eremurus is a stately flower, the tallest of which is Eremurus robustus. These plants produce star-shaped flowers, which may be a variety of colors such as yellow, pink, and orange. These tall plants are prone to being damaged by wind and should be planted in a protected area.

Eremurus stenophyllus, the narrow-leaved foxtail lily, is a species of flowering plant in the family Asphodelaceae, native to central Asia. It is an herbaceous perennial growing to 1 m (3.3 ft) tall and broad, with narrow strap-shaped leaves. Racemes composed of small yellow flowers appear in summer. The flowers darken to brown from the base, forming a two-tone effect.with age.

The specific epithet stenophyllus is derived from the Greek stenos (narrow) and phyllon (leaf) to give “with narrow leaves”.

This plant is grown as a garden perennial for a sunny border, and has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Though hardy down to −20 °C (−4 °F), in colder areas it benefits from the shelter of a wall.

Two subspecies are listed, E. stenophyllus subsp. ambigens, and E. stenophyllus subsp. aurantiacus.

They thrive in almost any type of soil, will grow in sun or shade, and are rarely troubled by insect pests or disease. Daylilies are known for their toughness, but they also dazzle with their big, colorful flowers. Blooming starts in midsummer and continues into early fall, with new blossoms opening each day.

The Daylily is not a true lily. So named because most flowers wither within a day of blooming, these plants belong to the genus Hemerocallis. Some bloom only at night, and these varieties are often more fragrant than the day-blooming plants.

You will find a range of colors for daylilies, and each plant tends to bloom repeatedly over an extended period of time.

Crocosmia are summer blooming bulbs with exotic, brightly-colored flowers on wiry, arching stems. The buds open one-by-one from the bottom up and are magnets for hummingbirds.

Typically planted in the spring, these warm-weather bloomers usually don’t survive cold winters if the bulbs are left in the ground.

The Crocosmia is also known as the montbretia. These plants have a tendency to become invasive. The flowers and foliage of these plants arch slightly, with some ending up at 2 to 3 feet tall.

Many of these types of plants have red-orange flowers atop a stem, and the flowers open progressively from the base to the top. They can be evergreen or deciduous perennials that grow from basal underground corms.

The alternate leaves are cauline and ensiform (sword shaped). The blades are parallel-veined. The margin is entire. The corms form in vertical chains with the youngest at the top and oldest and largest buried most deeply in the soil.

The roots of the lowermost corm in a chain are contractile roots and drag the corm deeper into the ground where conditions allow. The chains of corms are fragile and easily separated, a quality that has enabled some species to become invasive and difficult to control in the garden.

They have colourful inflorescences of 4 to 20 vivid red and orange subopposite flowers on a divaricately (horizontally) branched stem. The terminal inflorescence can have the form of a cyme or a raceme.

These flower from early summer well into fall. The flowers are sessile on a flexuose arched spike. The fertile flowers are hermaphroditic. All stamens have an equal length. The style branches are apically forked.

They are pollinated by insects, birds (sunbirds) or by the wind. The dehiscent capsules are shorter than they are wide. The alternative name montbretia is still widely used.

The genus name is derived from the Greek words krokos, meaning “saffron”, and osme, meaning “odor” – from the dried leaves emitting a strong smell like that of saffron (a spice derived from Crocus – another genus belonging to the Iridaceae) – when immersed in hot water.

Flowers of celosia are known as wool flowers or cockscombs. They have unusual flowers that can bloom up to 10 weeks. These flowers can have red, pink, purple, gold or bicoloured blooms. When many celosia flower blooms are next to each other.

The Celosia flower is also known as the Prince of Wales’ Feathers. The plume-like flowers range in color from shades of reds, oranges, and yellows.

While tall forms of the plant can reach approximately 30 inches, the dwarf forms are less than a foot tall. These plants are annuals that require sun to grow well.

Celosia argentea is a tender annual that is often grown in gardens. It blooms in mid-spring to summer. It is propagated by seeds. The seeds are extremely small, up to 43,000 seeds per ounce.

The flowers are hermaphrodites and the plant also exhibits dodecaploidy. As these plants are of tropical origin, they grow best in full sunlight and should be placed in a well-drained area. Full sunlight means they should get at least 8 hours of direct sunlight.

For healthy growth plant them in the area where they get early morning sunlight and afternoon shade. In the afternoon the sunlight are mostly harsh especially in hot summer.

Afternoon shade will save the plant from excessive heat. The flowerheads can last up to 8 weeks, and further growth can be promoted by removing dead flowers.

Canna lilies are low maintenance and easy to grow, and both their flowers and foliage offer long lasting color in the garden. The flower color may be red, orange, or yellow. Depending on the variety, foliage color varies from green to maroon, bronze, and variegated types.

When growing cannas in the garden, placing them in mixed borders or group plantings will offer the most dramatic effect. Plant outdoors in late spring and early summer. Soil temperature must be 60°F (15°C) or warmer. (If your gardening season is short, cannas can be started in pots indoors or in greenhouses.)

Cannas grow best in full sun with moderate water in well-drained, rich or sandy soil. They grow from perennial rhizomes, but are frequently grown as annuals in temperate zones for an exotic or tropical look in the garden. In arid regions, cannas are often grown in the water garden, with the lower inch of pot submerged.

Canna Lilies are also known as Indian shot. These exotic-appearing plants feature flowers with bold colors atop tall stems, with some reaching four feet tall. The blooms are usually yellow, red, or orange, with some species having bicolor flowers or ones streaked or spotted with colors. The foliage may have bronze or purple tinges.

California poppies are annual plants with feathery gray-green foliage. The four-petaled flowers, borne on stems 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 inches) long, are usually pale yellow, orange, or cream in the wild, but cultivated varieties are available in whites and various shades of red and pink.

California poppy is used alone or in combination with other herbs for anxiety, trouble sleeping (insomnia), aches, nervous agitation, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.

These plants are usually hardy and can even be found growing out of the cracks in paving slabs. They easily self-seed. The California Poppy or eschscholzia is a brightly colored flower with blue-green foliage.

It is a perennial or annual plant growing to 5–60 in (13–152 cm) tall with alternately branching glaucous blue-green foliage. The leaves are alternately divided into round, lobed segments. The flowers are solitary on long stems, silky-textured, with four petals, each petal 2 to 6 cm (0.79 to 2.36 in) long and broad; flower color ranges through yellow, orange and red[1] (with some pinks).

Flowering occurs from February to September in the northern hemisphere (spring, summer, fall). The petals close at night (or in cold, windy weather) and open again the following morning, although they may remain closed in cloudy weather.

The fruit is a slender, dehiscent capsule 3 to 9 cm (1.2 to 3.5 in) long, which splits in two to release numerous small (1.5–1.8 mm wide) black or dark brown seeds. It survives mild winters in its native range, dying completely in colder climates.

Gaillardia, also known as blanket flower, is an easy to grow, short-lived perennial with richly colored, daisy-like flowers. These plants have a long blooming season, from summer until fall.

Blanket flowers are an interesting and colorful addition to the flower bed or garden, offering long lasting blooms if deadheaded, a necessary part of the care of blanket flowers. A member of the Daisy family, blanket flowers are similar to those of the familiar wildflower.

They attract pollinators such as butterflies and come in a range of colors including reds and oranges. The flowers may be solid colored or a combination of colors such as red and yellow.

These are annual or perennial herbs or subshrubs, sometimes with rhizomes. The stem is usually branching and erect to a maximum height around 80 centimeters (31.5 inches).

The leaves are alternately arranged. Some taxa have only basal leaves. They vary in shape. They are glandular in most species.

The inflorescence is a solitary flower head. The head can have 15 or more ray florets, while some taxa lack any ray florets. They can be almost any shade of yellow, orange, red, purplish, brown, white, or bicolored. They are sometimes rolled into a funnel shape.

Abutilon is a shrub that blooms during the summer. The blooms are saucer-shaped, and the stems have gray, hairy leaves. The shrub may grow to around 15 feet, and many hybrids have been developed that you can enjoy.

Abutilon is a bell shaped flower and the color of the flower ranges from yellow to pink to orange to deep red. The leaves of this flower are palmate like a maple therefore it is also called flowering maple. The calyx in the flower has a cup-shaped appearance, greenish in color and it’s about 1.5cm long.

The flowers of wild species are most often yellow or orange, but can be red or pinkish, sometimes with a darker center.

The stamens are fused into a tube lined at the mouth with anthers. Inside the tube is the branching style with head-like stigmas.

The fruit is a rounded or hemispherical schizocarp with up to 20 segments, each containing a few seeds.

If you’re looking for a showy annual bloom in the sunny garden or the container, something you can just plant and forget about, try growing Gazanias.

Gazania is excellent flower plant to grow in winter. If you plant one Gazania in the garden soon it will multiply into many plants.

When growing Gazanias, expect the plant to reach 6 to 18 inches (15-46 cm.) in height and about the same in spread as it trails on the ground. A clumping mound of grass-like foliage produces Gazania treasure flowers. This easy-to-grow bloom is tolerant of poor, dry, or sandy soil. Heat and salty spray don’t deter its growth or beautiful blossoms either, making it a perfect specimen for oceanfront growing.

Growing Gazanias bloom in vivid shades of red, yellow, orange, pink, and white and can be two tone or multi-colored. Showy blooms appear in early summer through early fall on this annual wildflower. Care of Gazania flowers is simple once they’re planted and established in the garden.

It is a very tough plant that doesn’t need much care. It needs an adequate amount of space & sunlight to grow.

The more sunlight it absorbs the more flower it gives. Without sunlight, its flower gets small in size. Add liquid fertilizer every 15 days to see the best result.
